LA  JOLLA GUIDE

Welcome to our Jewel! We want you to enjoy your stay in La Jolla as much as possible. We hope you will have some time to relax and enjoy the scenery, so please take a moment to look over this guide with great places to eat, shop and play.

ATTRACTIONS

The center of the shopping area is the corner of Girard and Prospect. The two main shopping streets meet to form the heart of downtown La Jolla. Just south of La Jolla is Wind n Sea Beach. To the north is the famous Scripps Institute of Oceanography which is part of the University of California San Diego campus. The eastern part of La Jolla is climbs up Mt. Soledad, (“Mountain of Solitude” in Spanish), and is topped by a war memorial that overlooks all of San Diego.

Children’s Pool Beach

Are you an animal lover? Even if you’re not, don’t miss the famous Children’s Pool, one of the only places in the US where you can see a seal colony right before your eyes. Now that pupping season is just concluding,  you can watch the mothers with their baby seals playing around at the beach or in the water, and don’t forget to check the names of all the new pups. 

La Jolla Cove

Prospect St. and Coast Blvd.

Rent a kayak and go explore this beauty of nature and the caves around it. Or just join the rest of the hearty souls who are going in for a swim.  Not feeling that adventurous? Simply stroll down Coast Blvd. and enjoy the scenery.  Rent a kayak here Hike Bike Kayak

Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Children and adults alike will love this aquatic museum with exotic sea life. See the giant enclosure with its kelp bed, and a variety of colorful sea life including small sharks.

Athenaeum Music and Arts Library

1008 Wall St.

This beautiful building houses a fine library of music and art. Call for performances and events happening all year round.

Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial

Go up Via Capri and La Jolla Scenic Drive South.

A war memorial cross stands tall in the middle of the park, from where you have the most stunning views overlooking San Diego.

Museum of Contemporary Art

700 Prospect St.

Check out one of the exhibitions that have given this museum an international reputation, or enjoy lunch at the Museum Café.

Windansea Beach

6800 Neptune Place

Its fabulous surf breaks make this beach one of the favorite places for local and international surfers.

Kellogg Park

Camino del Oro, La Jolla Shores

This beachside park has something for everybody. The children will enjoy the playground while the adults take in the views.

La Jolla Recreation Center

Feel like a game of basketball? Or just throw some hoops while the children enjoy the playground. Next door you will find the Tennis Club where you can book a court for a game with friends.

Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course

Play a game of golf where the professionals come to play.
