It appears that whenever someone knows you’re from sunny San Diego California they think we live in flip flops and baggy beach t-shirts. We are lucky enough to live so close to beautiful beaches, but does that define our fashion sense? In a way I would say that it does. I do love beach attire and we are all often found wearing sandals and tank tops because of the weather. Then again I have friends on the east coast who assume that we are surfer dudes and chicks who walk around in our baiting suit all day, even though that may be true sometimes there is so much more to San Diego Fashion then just that. Though San Diego is a smaller city compared to our sister city Los Angeles, we still have a lot of the same resources in the fashion industry.
San Diegans also know how too dress it up and down when needed. We are very self expressive, in the fact that we can dress how ever we want without being criticized too much, but then again that’s part of California’s beauty. We are free to be whom we want, in the golden state, which is what I think makes California’s fashion so amazing. You can find anything out here; people dress how they feel.
Companies have taken advantage of California’s beach themes and turned them into mega moneymaker stores, such as Hollister, Pacsun, etc.I have a friend on the east coast who loves shopping at stores like I just mentioned, sometimes I find it funny knowing she’s shopping at a store that is made to look like a beach house two blocks from me, when the nearest looking house like that is two hours away from her! Its funny how we adapt into a certain culture , that it becomes a way of life and even a way of dressing. San Diego definitely dances to the beat of its own drum when it comes to fashion and hair. All cultures, towns, places, and people take different aspects of nature and design to create their own fashion sense. Different things around us influence us, but that does not define our endless possibilities of styling no matter where you live.
